in search of the perfect bookmark

I have a hard time keeping track of bookmarks. I don’t know what it is but I lose them more than I use them. It’s a shame because I’ve had people send me the most beautiful handmade-especially-for-me bookmarks over the years. I’ve ended up putting them on my idea board rather than use them out of fear. Then I saw one that was completely different and I thought I’d give it a try.

I imagine you could make them out of envelopes. Or just fold stuff until you get it right. But I don’t work that way, oh no! I took it as a personal challenge to create a pattern and here it is.

I’ve made two version of the pattern. This one is an .svg for Sure Cuts a Lot.

This is a print your own version. (click on it to get it full size)

It’s pretty straightforward:

  • Patterned works best at around 5″ wide but you can scale smaller for smaller books.
  • It works best with heavier weight paper.
  • Pre-fold for best edges.
  • Flap goes on inside. Stick ribbon down on flap before gluing.
  • Glue well with no overflow.
  • Decorate with flat embellies and stuff. Remember, this needs to go inside a book!
  • You are done.
  • Share freely.

I hope you enjoy.

I made some of these for my daughter’s and they loved them!

O.k., can’t stop making them! I think I’ll take this to my stamp camp and have the girls make some!
I took a needle and threaded a knotted ribbon thru the small opening in the corner. Then added some beads that have letters on them and they glow in the dark (of all things).
