chickens in the snow
I let the chickens out of the coop yesterday. Even though there’s still a little snow on the ground, it’s warm enough for my feathered friends to come out and explore. They were more than happy to do so. I grabbed the camera and we spent some quality time together in the out of doors.
Napoleon, of course, was quite vocal as soon as he came out. I caught this cool shot of him shaking his head/feathers. He does that sometimes after he crows. I think he’s trying to make himself appear larger.
That photo reminds me of something else: a frilled neck lizard.
And here’s Lucky, in all his glory. He’s such a giant handsome guy.
So giant, in fact, that he has cankels. See:
Meanwhile, Napoleon tries to ignore the fact that he’s a tiny little creature. This photo shows the size difference between Lucky and Napoleon. The overcompensating Napoleon crowed…
And Crowed.
But so did our silky roo. Look at his pretty hair feathers.
And he even did a little dance for me.
And then Selma or Thelma came up and gave Lucky a little kiss. She’s his favorite hen and the one I put the saddle on. I think he took it off of her because the colors were not flattering.
Then Lucky made his move.
But so did Napoleon. He’s like that, you know. Just got to get in there and try and take over.
Poor hen.
Get a clue dude.
I told you he was obnoxious.

Sheila, Your chickens look amazing! Thanks for sharing photos, but it makes me yearn for spring and chick time more than ever.
