bonbonniere

Submitted by sheila on Friday, 5 February 20104 Comments

I found some deep baking cups at the craft store a few months back. I had no idea what to do with them, besides baking of course. Until Valentine’s day projects started brewing in my noggin. I thought they would be a nice foundation this little bonbonniere, which is just a fancy word for a small ornate box or dish for candy. I like it better than calling it a treat box.

This is a super simple project that would be perfect for young and older children, as well as something you could make 20 of easily enough for a school party. You obviously don’t have to decorate them to the hilt like I did. Just have fun. Here’s the step by step for making them.

Start by gathering together the supplies: baking cups, patterned or decorative paper, wire, trim, decorative scissors and anything you want to decorate like bling, felt shapes, stickers, etc. You will also need some tape. Here’s the pattern I used for the basket. It’s really a cupcake holder pattern, but that’s ok, right? Go ahead and print them on plain paper.

To get started, use the wrapper template to cut out your basket. Cut these out of your patterned paper using the template as a guide. I used my decorative scissors on the top for a fancier edge.

Tape your basket edges together in back. Tape on the inside so it’s not visible. The basket it done.

Decorate the basket, if you like. I used some scraps of felt and bling. I also made a paper medal for the heart. The instructions are in this video I made awhile back.

To create the handle, measure out a length of wire and trim. Weave the wire through the trim until you reach the end.

The create a hook on the ends of the wire. This will keep the trim in place while we are adding it to our basket.

Use a piece of tape to adhere the wired trim to the inside of the basket. It helps to use the hook on the end to anchor it and keep it still.

Drop your baking cup inside your basket and you are done. Of course you have to fill it with bonbons. This is the most important step, for crying out loud!

Notice how few candies are left in this photo? It has that effect.
