for the love of matchboxes

bunny

I discovered altered matchboxes from a swap I did through swap bot a few weeks ago. Little did I know they would consume my every creative thought for a while. It’s been a nice respite from the care of sick children. These little packages of glee totally hit the spot.

One of the coolest things about little matchboxes is that they can really be anything you want them to be. They can be functional, like the bunny box above.  I created it to be a gift box. I’ve seen some that have little legs and look like dressers. Most of all, I like using them to tell stories or create scenes.

I bought a package of little boxes for these projects, but I also found a template for making your own matchboxes over at Mirkwood Designs.

I’ve been thinking about hosting a swap for these little gems. Leave a comment if you are interested. I’ll have a formal signup later if there’s enough interest.

Enjoy.

OMG These are so cute…I mean I have seen some vintage ones to put on the mantlepiece but you have put the cutest things inside as well. I need to come up with an idea for my first design team project so i might just start off small and use these!!

I shan’t ask where you got the match boxes from..lol! Loving those mirkwood designs they are so helpful if you need to track a template down.

I’d love to participate in a swap of matchboxes! I’ve been exploring all of your tutorials and other fun stuff, and matchboxes are something I love to alter.

Lori – they are just little 32 match boxes from just about any store. I posted a link to a template over at Mirkwood designs, too. So you can even make your own.

So cute! I’m not working right now and have been trying to find things to occupy my time when I’m not looking for a job or taking care of the family. How exactly do you do the swaps?
